It is Mother’s Day! I thought of the Biblical quote, “Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.”(I Cor.12:4) When raising and nurturing a child, most parents want the absolute best for that child.
They have to be the protectors that put a safety net around that child’s life. But, then at some point, they must trust others who can share their gifts with that child. That is where diversity comes into play. No one person can give a child everything. It truly does take a village to pour in gifts from all avenues and walks of life.
One neighbor, who may be a painter, can introduce a young one to terms such as acrylics, oils, and canvases or share information about the great painters of the past. Or someone in the community may be a guitarist who can show that child how to strum and pick a guitar and offer hands-on practices.
Another may be a moralist or a teacher who can guide the child into practicing good behavior and standards for successful living. A local hairstylist or barber may speak some words of wisdom that may stay with that young person for a lifetime.
The list goes on and on. Many can share. The gifts are numerous. The result will be a more wholesome child with a wealth of knowledge to choose from when it is time to make major life decisions.
So on this Mother’s Day, I would say after making sure that your child is safe, fling open the doors and let the diversity of gifts flow. The more, the merrier!
Happy Mother’s Day!
